That's a God thing!

Last night I was feeling depressed, discouraged, and pretty upset.  I've been in a deep rut, and last night was pretty low.  Then I got an e-mail at 2:48AM from Umfundisi Jim Lo, IWU's Dean of the Chapel, and a man of my highest respect.  His e-mail said this:: "I could not sleep...felt burdened to pray for you and thus, know that you are being lifted to HIS throne this early morning...you are greatly appreciated...."  How could I not be impressed by that?  God is good.

I'm reminded of this from a blog I wrote 21 October::
He is a universe-maker and a heart-former, but He is a God who is intimately acquainted with all the circumstances; and He promises you, whatever comes in this life time, however difficult the road, however dark the night, He will hold on to you, and literally hold you together and carry you through any and every circumstance that ever comes your way at any moment on this planet! That is the promise of God!

fearfully and wonderfully made

This is a snippet of an incredible message, and incredible really downplays how good it was.    As part of Chris Tomlin's tour "How Great is Our God," Louie Giglio is speaking to a huge crowd in Atlanta about God's awe-inspiring creation.  I realized that my problems pale in insignificance in the light of God's character as revealed in His creation.   Giglio provides details about stars and their various sizes.  It is sobering to realize how much bigger some stars are than our own sun.  Giglio talks about a star.. in comparison.. if Earth were a golfball, this star would be the size of Mt. Everest.  He also includes discussion of the DNA molecule and its fascinating functions.  There is a protein called laminin. It literally holds our cells together--and so, by implication, it holds our very selves together. Amazingly, it is shaped like a cross.  Psalm 33:13-15; 18-22 reads this: "From high in the skies God looks around, he sees all Adam's brood. From where he sits he overlooks all us earth-dwellers. He has shaped each person in turn; now he watches everything we do... Watch this: God's eye is on those who respect him, the ones who are looking for his love.  He's ready to come to their rescue in bad times; in lean times he keeps body and soul together. We're depending on God;
he's everything we need. What's more, our hearts brim with joy  since we've taken for our own his holy name. Love us, God, with all you've got— that's what we're depending on
." (Msg).  He has made us a promise, for those who trust in Him, He will literally hold them in His hand and carry them all the days of their life.

I'm going to be looking for this series on DVD....

Fall break... vacation?

Condo on the beach?

Cabin in the woods?

Lake house?

I need a vacation.  This week is fall break, which really only means a 3 day weekend.  But it's something!  I need rest.  But.. I do need to get things done too.  I was going with a group of about 25 from IWU to Orange, Texas to do Hurricane Ike relief.. but I've decided to drop out and stay home.  Emotionally, I need to be home.  So.. Thursday afternoon I'm packing up and going home!  I have mid-terms Tuesday and Wednesday.. I also need to help my Spanish tutees prepare for their tests.  =S

Food for thought..

What do you most enjoy or miss about being single?
In what era would you most like to have grown up?
Would you rather have a job you love that doesn't pay well or a well-paying job you don't like?
What one goal do you hope to accomplish this year?
In your opinion what are the even wonders of the world?
What was the last thing you cried about?
What was your favorite childhood meal?
Which is more important: intelligence or common sense?
What's the hardest thing you've ever done?
Will the world be a better or a worse place in 100 years?
What's your proudest accomplishment?
When you're down what do you do to feel better?
Would you make any changed if you found out there is a heaven and a hell?
What remains undone that you have wanted to get done for years?
What's one thing you've done that you'd like to erase?
Which three political issues are the most important to you?
What would you like your life to be like in 10 years?
What was your most memorable meal ever?
When you were young what did you want to be when you grew up?
Which other culture would you choose to be born into?
How do you define integrity and do you have it?
Is it more essential to develop beliefs or to gain knowledge?
At what age do most people become old and what is the secret to staying young?
Do you believe in coincidence or synchronicity?
Has anything bad ever happened to you that turned out to be for the best?
Have you ever had an experience that led you to believe in angels or ghosts?
If you had to spend one year living alone in a remote cabin would you would spend your time doing?

Team Vinluan

My friend Andrea Vinluan is running for the Marion Community School Board and, though I live in Gas City and therefore outside of her voting district, I SUPPORT HER and if you're interested in seeing Marion Community Schools become a place one desires to send their children.. join Team Vinluan and vote for Andrea!  Here is a link to her blog where she has shared a few thoughts: http://teamvinluan.blogspot.com .  Andrea cares not only about her children in Marion schools, but wants to ensure the best possible learning environment for the children of Marion Community Schools.  Andrea is wonderful and she is a mom who can make a difference!

A stunning comeback

So my dearly beloved Colts played an ugly game this afternoon, but what STUNNING COMEBACK! Manning's late-game poise (and the lack of it for Texans' quarterback Sage Rosenfels) helped the Colts score 21 points (TWENTY-ONE!) in a late span of 2:10, (TWO MINUTES, TEN SECONDS.) Two touchdowns came thanks to late-game fumbles by Rosenfels, then Indy intercepted Rosenfels' last-ditch comeback attempt for a 31-27 win.

squats and automatics

Does anyone have any idea about what this blog might be about? hmmm.. squats and automatics?

Yes, this is a blog about toilets, well.. restrooms.  But it might be worth a read...

I've been really committed to drinking 64+ ounces per day - which means 2 entire nalgenes.  So anyways, I was in the restroom in Noggle yesterday and I realized something.  I need to describe to you the restrooms in the newly renovated Christian Ministries building at IWU.  The walls and floor are covered in small beautiful tiles.  There is a special counter for bags, with hooks above for jackets.  The sinks are stainless steel.  The toilets, sinks, and paper towel dispensers are automatic.  Automatic.  I was first frustrated when the toilet flushed itself at the improper time, then the temperature in the faucets was intolerable, and the motion sensors in the paper towel dispensers would not react to my hands.  I was frustrated.

And then... I remembered this::

These are khmer squats - or toilets in Cambodia.  In the first and third you see a bucket, and in the second a concrete box.  These hold water to rinse your hands, rinse.  Sure you can use soap and toilet-paper.. if you find any in your pockets.

It made me think about alot of things.  Not only was I reminded that God has called me to give up many things to follow His will across the borders, but my attitude.. it was wrong.  Yes, it was frustrating, but we are blessed.  To whom much is given, much is required..

I think I am actually going to write my next Advanced Writing essay about squats and automatics...
